Courses

The Alpha Course:

An opportunity to find out more about the Christian faith, share food and ask questions, Alpha is a 10 week course giving people an opportunity to explore the Christian faith. It is relaxed, non-threatening, friendly and fun!

There is a meal together at the beginning of each session, giving an opportunity to get to know each other. It is also a place to listen, learn, discuss and discover; where no question is too simple or hostile.

What does it involve?

The Alpha course consists of a series of talks looking at topics such as ‘Who is Jesus?’, ‘Why did Jesus die?’ and ‘How can I be sure of my faith?’ After each talk we divide into small groups for a time of discussion.

Who is Alpha for?

For everyone, but especially for those wanting to investigate Christianity and those who have recently come to faith.

During Alpha we promise:

  • No strings attached: You will not be expected to ‘sign on the dotted line’. Your right to see things differently will always be respected.
  • No embarrassment: We will not suddenly put you on the spot or make you feel uncomfortable. There is no pressure to sing or pray.
  • No boredom: You won't be subjected to long lectures or expected to listen without the opportunity to disagree, ask questions, laugh or put your own point of view.

We run regular Alpha Courses, based upon demand. We held the last Alpha course at the pub opposite the Assembly Rooms on Sunday mornings, but we can be flexible as to when and where we run the course, based upon what is most convenient for those who are interested in coming along.

The Marriage Course:

We are planning to run a marriage course in the near future alongside other local churches.

What is The Marriage Course?

The Marriage Course is very practical, giving couples the tools to build a strong and healthy relationship that lasts a lifetime.

Over seven evenings spent together, couples talk about important issues that can get swept under the carpet in the rush of daily life.

Topics include: recognising each other’s needs, learning to communicate effectively, resolving conflict, healing past hurts, knowing how to make each other feel loved, relating to parents and in-laws, good sex, making time for each other and having fun together.

Privacy as a couple is always respected. There is no group discussion and no requirement to disclose anything about your relationship with anyone else.

What’s involved?

Each evening begins with a meal. There is then a video presentation followed by an opportunity to discuss the topic together as a couple.  The setting is welcoming, relaxed and unthreatening.

Who is it for?

The course is for any couple who wants to build a strong lasting relationship, especially:

  • Those who want to enhance their marriage
  • Those at a challenging stage in their marriage, e.g. the birth of a child, a career change, teenagers at home, the 'empty nest'
  • Those struggling with issues in their marriage

The course, while based on Christian principles, is very helpful for any couple with or without a Christian faith or church background.

Freedom in Christ:

The purpose of this course is to help every Christian take hold of the freedom that Christ has won for them and move on to maturity. The course runs over 10 weeks and there is then the opportunity to take part in an individual prayer appointment where you can pray through the 'steps to freedom'.
