one big summer

One Big Summer started in the summer of 2011. The programme of special events was created to try and meet a need in the local community which was to provide activities for children and young people at a low cost. Six weeks is a long time to fill and many parents and carers look for positive activities for their children to take part in. We aimed to provide activities that were active and fun, encouraging a healthy lifestyle for those who came.

In the summer of 2011 we ran a football week, craft afternoons (named Crafternoons by one of our young people, Theo), Toddlers, Teddy Bears’ Picnic and a drama holiday club (Stage Door). Following the success of these, we added in an ‘Olympics Week’ in 2012 to celebrate the Olympics coming to London. In 2013, the summer programme saw a team taking a group of young people to Malawi as well as a host of other activities and events. Last year we created another full, action-packed programme and this year we were back and bigger than ever.

One Big Summer 2015 started with Teddy Bear Picnic and our first One Big Summer Sunday, was stuffed full with Games and Sports Week, Laser Tag and a Family Sports Day, sprinkled with Crafternoons and Stage Door Holiday Club and finished in style with the second One Big Summer Sunday in Alexandra Park. One Big Summer is over for 2016, but don't forget that you can keep up to date with the latest news by heading over to the One Big Summer Facebook page.
